If your muscle memory says "Wednesday night, Kelley Park, lawn chairs," retire it until fall. Construction at Kelley Park has scattered the summer calendar across town, and the practical center of Apple Valley's warm-weather social life has shifted about two miles north to Fischer Marketplace on Florence Trail. Half the town already knows. The other half will show up to an empty park sometime in July and stand there confused. This is a guide for the second group, and a plan for anyone who wants to work the new geography deliberately.
Due to construction in Kelley Park this summer, concerts will be held at Bogart's Entertainment Center from June 19 through July 31 and at Splash Valley on August 7. The series concludes with a grand re-opening celebration concert in Kelley Park on September 26. That last date matters. It is the closest thing Apple Valley has to a civic ribbon-cutting this year, and it will draw a bigger crowd than any single Wednesday would have.

The Bogart's stretch is the one to plan around. It is a different environment than the grass at Kelley, closer to a plaza than a picnic, and it changes what to bring. Fewer blankets, more standing.
Apple Valley Freedom Days runs June 26 through July 4 at Johnny Cake Ridge Park East, 5800 140th Street West, and this is not a normal year for it. Fourth of July activities in Apple Valley could have extra sparkle in 2026, the 250th anniversary, or semiquincentennial, of the Declaration of Independence. The holiday falls on a Saturday in the middle of a three-day weekend, July 3-5. A Saturday Fourth on a milestone anniversary tends to expand every crowd estimate you had in your head from last year.

A few things residents tend to underestimate. The Fun Run and the parade are on opposite sides of the Johnny Cake corridor, so if you are doing both, plan the drive. The Legion barbecue at 11 a.m. is the quietest good meal of the day and the one out-of-town relatives are least likely to know about. And the Casting with the Cops fishing event at the Cobblestone Lake fishing pier runs 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. during the week leading up, which is a genuinely charming hour if you have kids who need to burn off carnival sugar.
The block along Florence Trail has quietly become the reason to leave the house on a Friday. Three separate things happened here in the last eighteen months, and together they change the calculus of "where do we go tonight."
Revolve Hall, 14889 Florence Trail. The food hall opened in the space that used to house Pizzeria Social and Curiouser Coffee, and it is run by Tony Donatell of the newly renamed Wondrous Collective restaurants, which has locations in Eagan, Farmington, Savage and soon Lakeville. Under one roof:
The Wanderer patio is the specific thing to put on your list this month. Outdoor bar seating that is neither a chain patio nor a driveway grill is thin on the ground in Apple Valley.
Brick & Bourbon, 14883 Florence Trail. An opening date hasn't yet been shared for Brick & Bourbon's fourth metro-area location, in the Fischer Marketplace in Apple Valley. Worth watching. The restaurant's other locations run late, with Friday and Saturday hours to midnight, which is a category Apple Valley has been short on.
Serious Sanji, 7625 148th Street West. A national chain with franchises in Boca Raton, Milwaukee and more plans to open in Apple Valley, with a menu that will include dumplings, noodles, rice dishes and dim sum. No firm date yet. When it opens, it will be the closest dim sum to the south metro that is not a drive up 35W.
The Golden Nuts. A sweets retailer founded in Columbia Heights in 2024, specializing in chocolates, nuts and dessert items, opened an Apple Valley outpost earlier in 2026, with a third Mall of America location planned for later this year. Small business, useful for a hostess gift when someone invites you to their July 4 cookout and you forgot until an hour before.
The interesting pattern in that list is not any single opening. It is that a food hall, a steakhouse-adjacent concept, a dim sum operator, and a specialty confectioner all chose the same half-mile stretch inside eighteen months. That is not coincidence. That is a commercial corridor consolidating.
The Minnesota Zoo, still the largest single draw inside city limits at 500 acres off Cedar Avenue, is running its evening lantern event on a shorter runway than most people realize. When the sun goes down, the lights come up on the Wanderlight Trail. It is a walk through the woods surrounded by larger-than-life lanterns of the animals you love, exclusive to the Zoo and here for a limited time, June 3 – August 2.
The three lantern experiences are Pollinators, Wonders of the Ocean, and Wonders of the Land. The trail transforms throughout the evening, so arriving earlier means lanterns glowing against the sunset, while later gets the full nighttime experience. The practical read: if you have out-of-town family in for the Fourth, this is the after-parade activity that will not require standing in a fireworks crowd. If it is just you and a neighbor, the later time slot is quieter.
The zoo also has Wild Workout classes every Tuesday evening after closing, including Qigong, Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, and Mindfulness. Underused by locals. Worth a look if the summer routine is getting stale.
July. Casting with the Cops with the Apple Valley Police Department is on the Freedom Days calendar in July. Concerts at Bogart's continue through the month.
August 4. Night to Unite. Neighbors plan block parties to build community and police partnerships and promote crime prevention. The city treats it as a formal event. Registering your block gets you a visit from AVPD and often the fire department, which is a bigger deal to a seven-year-old than any fireworks display.
August 7. The concert series ends its displaced run at Splash Valley.
September 12. The Fall Food Truck Festival is a free, all-ages event with live music, activities, and a wide variety of food trucks with food and beverages for purchase.
September 26. Kelley Park reopens with the season-closing concert. If you like the community-picnic feeling that used to define Wednesday nights, this is the one date where it comes back.
If the reader takeaway is "there is a lot going on," the post has failed. The takeaway is narrower. This summer, the gravity is not where you left it. Kelley Park has been the reflex answer for years. Until late September, the answers are Bogart's for Wednesdays, Johnny Cake Ridge for the Fourth, Florence Trail for dinner, and the zoo after dark. Build the summer around those four points and you will have used your own town better than most of your neighbors.
Then in September, when the lanterns come down at the zoo and the food truck festival wraps and the Kelley Park stage lights back up, the shape of the town resets. It will feel like an ending and a beginning in the same weekend, which is a rare thing for a suburb to give you.
